Spruce Up The Kitchen With Color!

Color is just as much as a design element as the new kitchen counter top can be. It is choosing the right color for the right room that can be the design dilemma...
Many kitchens today serve as the main hub of the home and for this reason it needs to reflect that liveliness. Color can affect our moods and, oddly enough, our meals. Studies have shown that the color red in a kitchen can increase a person’s appetite. Who knew?
The best way to decide what color you should use in your kitchen is to look at the color of your appliances. Stainless steel appliances will match great with almost any color, but if you have older appliances that are odd colors, mustard yellow comes to mind, it may be harder to come up with a color scheme that is complimentary.
If you do have an older kitchen with funky colors, one great way to update the color scheme is to make sure your main appliances match in color. If you can’t afford new stainless steel for instance, you can purchase sticker-like covers that can be placed right overtop the front of your old appliances that look just like stainless steel and also come in other various colors. This is the frugal way of creating a whole new look for your kitchen.

Another great way to add color and make your kitchen appear as if it has had a makeover is by buying counter top appliances such as a toaster, coffee maker, blenders etc. in different colors. Many manufactures of these small appliances are now offering a rainbow of colors for the home kitchen. This is a great way to make your kitchen pop with color.
When choosing a wall color, think about the other elements in the room such as the color of the appliances, the countertop and the floor. If you have a countertop that has various colors, pick one that compliment the wall as well. A yellow or mint green color for the walls can liven up a kitchen and make it appear larger and brighter. Be careful of darker colors such as deep reds that can make the room appear smaller. If the cabinets are dark as well, go lighter everywhere else.
You can also take one solid color for the walls and use a different variant of that color to use on trimming, floorboards, etc. This will break up the color and add dimension to the kitchen.
